International Military Forum on Emerging Infectious DiseasesThe «International Military Forum on Emerging Infectious Diseases(EID): The Military’s Role Under International Health Regulations(IHR)» was held September 14–16, 2010 in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. The Forum was organized by the US Armed Forces Health Surveillance Center/GEIS, International Committee on Military Medicine (ICMM), WHO, and the Research Institute of Influenza representing the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. It gathered 143 medical officers, physicians and researchers from USA, Australia, Russia, Italy, France, Germany and other countries of Europe, Asia and Africa. The attendees delivered presentations and discussed the global challenges of EID preparedness, surveillance, detection and prevention, the military’s role in these activities, promotion of military-to-civilian cooperation and support of organizations and institutions working within the WHO framework for EID surveillance in compliance with International Health Regulations.
